Michigan House Passes Anti-Gay Laws Under Guise Of Religious Freedom

In a truly modern example of Orwell’s “double speak” the Michigan house has passed a law that will allow discrimination based on one’s personal religious beliefs. That is to say if you are Christian and think that being homosexual is a sin, you won’t have to treat gay people if you feel that offends your god.

Sounds like fiction huh? The idea that in 2014 someone could be denied lifesaving care, medicine or really anything under the guise of freedom if the person dispensing the care doesn’t agree with your “lifestyle”.

Speaker Jase Bolger actually pushed hard to fast-track the bill, which passed on partisan lines, 59-50 (you know who voted how…). It now heads to the Michigan Senate, and then if it successfully passes there its on to Governor Rick Snyder. It is not known if Gov. Snyder would sign it.

“I support individual liberty and I support religious freedom,” Bolger said today. “I have been horrified as some have claimed that a person’s faith should only be practiced while hiding in their home or in their church.”

“The idea that we need to ‘restore’ religious freedom — rights that are already enshrined in the U.S. Constitution — is a farce created by conservative lawmakers for the sole purpose of appeasing their far-right donors and the religious-right,” Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan, said in a statement.

At the same time a Michigan House committee refused to pass an LGBT non-discrimination bill after a local black anti-gay pastor delivered scathing testimony.

“No one from the LGBT community has ever had fire hoses turned on them by the police department, they have never had to drink out of an LGBT water fountain,” Stacy Swimp told the committee. “There is no record of LGBT — homosexuals, lesbians being forced to sit at the back of the bus in an LGBT section.”

It is not clear yet if the Michigan Senate will pass it or if the Governor will sign it., but the Senate is composed of 27 (R) and 11 (D) with a Republican Lt. Governor and Governor. Though there are Republicans against this, it is unclear how many.

So the only thing left to do is to pressure the Michigan Senate and Gov. Rick Snyder into following the naferious “gay agenda” of giving everyone equal treatment.
Use the little share buttons at the bottom of this page and tell everyone you know. Then call and write all of the Michigan state senators, the Lt. Governor and the Governor and let them know the whole country is watching.
